This year Francesca Lucia is offering seven interesting classes that will enhance your life-long learning experiences. Explore from Making Greeting Cards to Cross Stitching while doing arts and crafting. Almost all of the materials are provided, along with instructions. It’s easy, fun and reasonably priced. “Let’s Create for Useful’s Sake!”
Let's Make Tangle Art! Wells, Maine
Participants will have an opportunity to learn 9 to 12 designs which can be incorporated into a drawn design. Tangles are typically black ink on a white background. The designs look like doodles, but they are detailed and specific. They are fun and can be quietly meditative. All materials provided including instructions. $25. Let's Knit a Hat! Wells, Maine
All participants will have an opportunity to learn knitting by making a winter hat out of yarn. Knitting is believed to have originated in the Middle East in the 5th Century and traveled to Europe with wool traders soon afterwards. We will cast on, knit, knit two together and hand sew. All yarn materials are provided including instructions. All participants will need to purchase a size US11 knitting needles. $50. Wells-Ogunquit Adult Education Application
Let's Make Greeting Cards! Wells, Maine
The art of sending and receiving greeting cards can be traced back to notes of good will celebrating the Chinese New Year. For many it is still a pleasure to send and receive cards, but handmade cards make it all the more special. All participants will have an opportunity to make a heart, a flower, or a fish. Cross stitch is a form of sewing and a popular form of counted-thread embroidery in with X-shaped stitches in a tiled pattern are used to form a picture. Let's Make a Beaded Rosette! Wells, Maine
All participants will receive a $25 American Indian Beading Design Kit in which instructions are included. Together, we will work through the directions for a beaded rosette over two class periods. Beaded rosettes were typically used as trade items. Now, native artisans attach these beaded forms to a wide variety of garments, from headdresses or bonnets to shirts, pants, moccasins, and gloves. $75 Wells-Ogunquit Adult Education Application
Let's Needle Felt! Wells, Maine
Needle felting is the ancient art of creating non-woven fabric objects from wool by agitating the scaly fibers with a needle until they bond together. We will create a three inch by three inch square floral design that can be used for a pocket on a knitted or felted bag, a coaster or as a framed wall decoration. All materials will be provided. Let's Mandala Rock Paint! Wells, Maine
Mandalas date from as far back as the 4th century. Circular mandalas have been used to combine artwork and meditation. All participants will have an opportunity to paint 1 to 3 rocks using the circular Mandala Rock Painting method. All materials and instructions provided. $25. At the Wells, Maine High School we will experience making shell art from all of the objects that you have found at the sea! We will glue the objects to a 6” x 23” piece of wood hanging. Let's Make Glass Art!
At the Wells, Maine High School we will experience making glass art from stained glass and other glass objects from home. We will glue the objects to a 8” x 10” piece of framed glass. Let's Bead a Rosette!
At the Wells, Maine High School we will learn how to bead a Native American Beading Design of a Rosette. A kit will be part of the class, along with directional support. Let's Knit a Dishcloth!
At the Wells, Maine High School we will knit a dishcloth by casting on, using yarn over, knitting two together and binding off. The dishcloth is made with 100% cotton that is made in the United States. This useful cloth can be used in your own kitchen or is great for a gift! Register here: Wells-Ogunquit Adult Education
Let's Tangle Art!
At the Wells, Maine High School we will experience making black ink tangles that are continuous patterns. These patterns are taken from the copyrighted Zentangle designs. Quilt history dates back to the Egyptians and quilted garments were also used as padding under the knights’ armor. Feel free to bring patterns or templates.
